Fun with the GO cutter

I have been having fun cutting up a storm with the new GO cutter I got for Christmas. I have been cutting tons of scraps and plan to make a very large scrap quilt for the RV. I have been told that when you make a scrap quilt, do not THINK too much, just grab and sew!! Have any of you done this? Just another project I have started...............I have been so busy with feathered star (which I am having a great time with ) but it is very intense and sometimes I just need to do something that does'nt require a lot of planning or precision!!! I have made great headway with my Around the World by Jinny Beyer but have not even started with Greenpeace or Thimbleberries 2010. I have decided I must live to be very very old since I have so many quilts to make!!!!

  1. Sally, when you start you scrap quilts decide what you want, a random placement of squares or to use the scrap squares in an actual pattern. If I can find some pictures of a friend's scrap quilts I will bring them to the shop.
Next thing, start your Thimbleberries. I know I am one to talk but you can easily make the blocks in about an hour - just read the instructions. Lynette has such well done patterns but read and review the pictures to be sure you place your greens correctly to avoid unsewing. And on Green Piece, I would say take a day or two and cut your pieces and put them into baggies labeled per month. Then, when you go to Alaska you can have them in a tote and work on a baggie at a time.
Glad to see you are able to post.

  2. I love scrap quilts, but they can be just about what ever you want...planned in color and/or shade themes, random in colors, fabrics, sizes.

I'm currently using the Go's Value pack die to cut scraps up and plan to make a quilt with that die in darks, mediums & lights. I've also made many scrap quilts using their strip die and sewing 4 strips together (of scraps and cutting into blocks. All fun. The AccuQuilt certainly makes it fast & accurate! Definitely fun to see scraps I would have tossed get used and turn into beautiful quilts. I now save any scrap that will fit on any of my dies, where as previously I may not have pulled out my mat, ruler & rotary to cut small scraps!

AccuQuilt is also on Facebook, so you may want to check the community out there. Quite fun!
